This Upgraded Godzilla V8 Is Impressive But Costly
Ford announced that its team of engineers was developing an upgraded version of its earlier Godzilla V8 three years ago. Now, the power plant of an engine is finally here.
Performance Comes at a Price
The Megazilla V8 is listed at $22,995, which is no small chunk of change for most high-performance truck enthusiasts. That said, performance always comes at a price.
In this case, buyers get an impressive modern pushrod V8 that produces power at a 10.5:1 compression rate. The Megazilla produces 615 HP at 5,750 rpm and 638 lb-ft of torque at 4,650 rpm. Even at 2,500 rpm, the beastly engine can deliver over 500 lb-ft of torque.

Built on a Solid Foundation
As we mentioned, the Megazilla is an upgraded version of the Godzilla engine that powers Ford Super Duty trucks. Some features remain the same between the two engines, including the 7.3L displacement, 10.5:1 compression ratio, and cast-iron block.
That’s where the similarities end, and the Megazilla begins to truly shine. The initial Godzilla engine delivered a maximum of 430 HP to the Megazilla’s 615 and only 475 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm.
To accommodate that increased power, the engineers made some other upgrades. They opted for Mahle forged pistons in the Megazilla, CNC-ported cylinder heads, a steel crankshaft, and Callies forged steel H-beam connecting rods.
Though most of the Megazilla’s recognizable features are pulled from the Godzilla, Ford also incorporated the 92-mm throttle body from the Mustang Shelby GT500 to great effect.
The Megazilla Is Also Versatile
The Godzilla was designed with pickup trucks in mind. Of course, where there is a will, there is a way, and plenty of creative builders found a way to swap it into cars.
With the Megazilla, there’s no need for extra work. The upgraded engine features the bellhousing bolt pattern found in Ford’s 4.6/5.4 engines and its Coyote 5.0-L.
