Luxury Crossovers Compared

The luxury crossover segment is quite competitive with a wide range of prices and features. Not all luxury crossovers cost a fortune, however.

There are plenty of reasonably priced crossovers from luxury brands that still deliver a long list of features and quality designs. Let’s take a look at five luxury crossovers and how they compare.

Acura RDX

Acura RDX

The Acura RDX comes from Honda’s luxury line and starts at a reasonable $38,400 price tag. The RDX satisfies both crossover fans and those who like sports sedans with its strong performance and extremely spacious interior. The main engine for the RDX is an inter-cooled turbo inline-four that delivers 21 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway. This engine is paired with an automatic transmission and a standard FWD layout. The RDX offers seating for five people.

BMW X1

BMW X1

The BMW X1 is an attractive luxury crossover that starts at a price of around $35,400. It’s powered by an inter-cooled turbo inline-four that requires premium unleaded gas. The standard layout is FWD and power goes to the wheels via an automatic transmission. The X1 provides seating for five people and has a total cargo volume of 58.7 cubic feet. Fuel economy comes in a little better than the RDX with 24 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway.

Audi Q3

Audi Q3

The Audi Q3 is bulkier than some of the other crossovers on this list, but it still has a lot to offer with plenty of interior space and good tech options. The starting price for the Q3 is $34,000. An inter-cooled turbo inline-four powers the Q3 and it takes regular unleaded gas. The fuel economy is approaching average numbers of 20 MPG in the city and 30 MPG on the highway. Unlike some of the other crossovers mentioned, the Q3 comes with AWD as standard equipment. The Q3 is considered a small SUV and has seating for five passengers.

Mercedes-Benz GLB Class

Mercedes-Benz GLB Class

It may be a Mercedes-Benz, but the GLB Class crossover starts at a totally reasonable $38,050 price point. Its inter-cooled turbo inline-four requires premium unleaded gas and gets fuel economy ratings of 21 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway. FWD is the standard layout on the GLB Class and the standard transmission is an auto-shift manual with overdrive.

Cadillac XT4

Cadillac XT4

The Cadillac XT4 comes in at a mid-range price of $35,795 compared to the others on this list. Coming from a traditional American luxury brand, the XT4 is powered by a turbocharged gas inline-four and is paired with an automatic transmission. Fuel economy ratings are competitive at 22 MPG in the city and 30 MPG on the highway. The XT4 stands out from the pack with a nice balance of value, modern tech, and a stylish design.

The luxury compact crossover class offers a lot of similar choices, so your final decision is likely to come down to price and specific preferences, such as wanting standard AWD. Brand preferences are also common decision-makers, with many drivers looking specifically at Cadillac or BMW crossovers, for example.
