The Chevy Cruz vs. The Ford Focus

Even though the market tends to push automakers to build bigger and stronger SUVs, there’s still a strong desire for compact cars like the Chevy Cruze or Ford Focus. Both of these vehicles bring quite a bit to the table, including an attractive price tag.

While you might be happy with either compact car, they both can’t be kings of the urban domain. Here’s how the Chevy Cruze compares with the Ford Focus:

What You See Is What You Get

Both the Cruze and Focus come as sedans or hatchbacks, which gives you a few cargo options to consider. Regardless of which body type you choose, both of these cars look great. The Cruze tends to have a more modern and sporty look than the Ford car. Drivers who want something a little more low-key are plenty happy with the Focus.

The Cruze is also a little longer, which means more significant passenger space in the sedan. The Focus’ smaller size, however, does make it a little easier to park.

Neither vehicle is going to win any awards for their cabins, but that doesn’t mean you’re not getting a modern look and feel. The Focus offers more space up front and greater cargo options when all of the seats are being used. The Cruze, on the other hand, has a larger max cargo rating and provides more upgrade packages to add some luxury to the interior.

Feel The Pep

When you’re cruising in a compact car, you get to feel the power of every turn. The Chevy Cruze rocks a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that boasts 153 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque.

Drivers can also opt for a 1.6-liter turbodiesel engine that produces 137 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque. This option offers better fuel efficiency and low-end torque. The former engine earns 30 mpg city and 38 mpg highway, while the diesel engine gives 31 mpg city and 48 mpg highway.

The Ford Focus comes with a standard 2.0-liter engine that makes 160 hp and 146 lb0ft of torque. Unlike the Cruze, you can pick up this car with a manual transmission if you like to have a more hands-on driving experience. This engine gives you 26 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

The SE model can also be equipped with a 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that makes 123 hp and 125 lb-ft of torque. The turbo engine provides 30 mpg city and 40 mpg highway.

The Ford Focus may have more base power, but it lacks in the fuel efficiency game. Thanks to more torque, the Cruze also offers a faster feel on the highway.

Which Car is Right For You?

There are plenty of things to consider when comparing the Chevy Cruze to the Ford Focus. The Cruze has a range of $18,870 for the base model to $26,995 for the highest-end trim. The Focus starts at $17,950 and ends at $24,470.

Both models come with similar tech options and features, so it’s hard to compare apples to apples. If you’re looking to save some money and don’t want a flashy appearance, the Ford Focus may be the perfect option for you.

Drivers who don’t mind spending a little more upfront for a little more power and better fuel ratings tend to love the Chevy Cruze. Through in more cargo space and a roomier rear seat, and you’ll see why the Cruze is often the winning choice.
