New Jeep Wrangler for 2024

New Jeep Wrangler for 2024

It’s only the middle of the life cycle for the Jeep Wrangler, but the 2024 version receives subtle upgrades that make a huge difference in this off-road SUV.

The next model year of the Wrangler debuted at the New York International Auto Show to give us a look at the mid-cycle facelift that promises better off-road performance, improved safety, and increased refinements. To go along with these improvements, we see some subtle changes to the exterior that make it look different. Some of these differences might not be appealing to everyone, but that’s to be expected.

Going farther toward electrification with the new Wrangler

The Wrangler Rubicon now has a Dana 44 Full Float solid rear axle to give this trim more toughness. Other trims receive new standard equipment, and some new trim names enter the lineup for 2024. The greatest push forward for this classic Jeep is the accessibility of the new Wrangler 4xe, which is the plug-in hybrid version. This model should be the catalyst of this Jeep going forward until we see a fully electric version. Jeep is working toward half of all new Jeep sales being electric with this PHEV model.

The new Jeep grille might not be your cup of tea

The seven-slot grille is expected on every Jeep model, and it’s the main external difference we see in this new off-road SUV. The slots are slimmer and more upright, which gives the front of the Wrangler a similar appearance to the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. The slats also appear to be inlaid in the front fascia, which means we won’t see a body-color appearance for this aspect of the Wrangler going forward. Instead, we now have a combination of black textured slots, neutral gray metallic bezels, and a body-color surround to give a dimensional appearance to the Jeep grille.

The new grille design isn’t just for looks

Although some drivers will hate the new look of the grille, Jeep claims the new Wrangler grille aids in cooling. This added cooling is necessary for the new factory installed Warn winch on the Rubicon models.

We also see Jeep going away from the steel mast antenna, which should have been gone long ago. Now a stealth antenna, which is integrated into the windshield, is part of the mix. A new premium soft top is part of the standard packaging, with the Wrangler High Altitude receiving a new Sky One-Touch power top as part of the standard equipment for this trim level.

Tires and wheels are abundant in the new Jeep Wrangler

The 2024 version of the Wrangler offers new owners ten different wheel designs with sizes that range from 17 to 20 inches. If you want some serious off-road capable tires, the beadlock-capable models are part of the mix. The Xtreme 35 package is where you’ll find these impressive wheels. Tire sizes for the Wrangler range from 32 to 35 inches, giving you the tires that can take you out on the trails for some serious fun.

How has the Rubicon been upgraded?

In addition to the new rear axle, the new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon has several cool features. The Warn winch is part of the standard package, and it’s rated at 8,000 pounds. This new winch is mounted on the steel bumper and part of the factory packing. You also receive a Rock-Trac part-time transfer case, front sway bar disconnects, 33-inch tires, and Tru-Lok front and rear axle lockers.

If you want more from the Rubicon name, head up to the Rubicon X model. The X model adds a Rock-Trac full-time transfer case, a camera for off-roading, and 35-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires for the 2.0-liter and 3.6-liter automatic powertrains. Of course, you can also add the V8 Hemi power offered in the Rubicon 392 model that delivers up to 470 horsepower.

A new infotainment screen is a huge upgrade

One of the most impressive interior upgrades for the new Wrangler is the 12.3-inch touchscreen. The previous model was only seven inches. The Uconnect5 system is now part of the mix to give you the most advanced version of the infotainment system for your drive. This new system enables the Wrangler to connect via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly, making it easy to enjoy the ride out on the trails.

The new 2024 Jeep Wrangler offers the right upgrades to make it a more capable, useful, and impressive off-road SUV. Will you choose the PHEV 4xe model or stick with a classic name like Rubicon?
