Want all the benefits of an EV with the versatility of an off-road truck? Chevrolet plans to add the off-road-focused Trail Boss trim to its Silverado EV lineup for 2026.
Off-Roaders Rejoice
Previously available only on the Silverado and Colorado, the Trail Boss trim is Chevrolet’s popular off-road variant. Now, buyers can get all the benefits of an off-road truck without sacrificing efficiency, thanks to the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss.
According to the company’s vice president, Scott Bell, the Trail Boss is one of the most popular trims in Chevrolet’s portfolio. It was first launched in 2019 on the Silverado and has since been added to the Colorado lineup. Now, you’ll also find the Silverado EV Trail Boss at your local Chevy dealership.
Added Capability
The chief engineer for the Silverado EV, Joe Roy, indicates that the Trail Boss trim of Chevy’s popular electric truck will be similar in capability to the Silverado and Colorado Trail Boss models.
The Silverado EV Trail Boss will feature a two-inch lift, resulting in 24% higher ground clearance than the standard EV truck. The off-road pickup’s coil suspension is also uniquely tuned and includes a hydraulic rebound control system.
The Silverado EV Trail Boss will also get the trim-exclusive Terrain mode, which can be implemented at low speeds for additional control on uneven terrain. Terrain mode activates sharper four-wheel steering and better torque and traction control.
Drivers familiar with the Sidewinder mode will be happy to know that it’s also available on the Silverado EV Trail Boss. Sidewinder was first introduced on the RST trim level. The drive mode enables all four wheels to turn in the same direction at low speeds, allowing the truck to move diagonally.
Finally, the Silverado EV Trail Boss will be outfitted with Chevrolet’s extended-range battery pack. It will produce up to 725 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque and be capable of towing up to 12,200 lbs.
Rugged Appearance
The Silverado EV Trail Boss is an off-road-ready machine, and it looks the part. The EV truck has a bolder, more aggressive design than other variants and boasts trim-specific design features.
One of the first things buyers will notice about the Silverado EV Trail Boss’s exterior is the red front tow hooks. Like the tow hooks, the high-angle approach front fascia adds to the truck’s aesthetic while simultaneously serving a practical purpose off-road.
The Trail Boss trim also gets unique exterior badging. It will be available in nine exterior colors.
Driver Assist Upgrades
The Silverado EV offers Super Cruise, Chevrolet’s hands-free driving system, and includes integration with Google Maps. Drivers can also get Super Cruise with towing on the Trail Boss trim.
Now, a newly added hands-on function keeps the truck centered in the lane and adjusts the speed to match the driver ahead on standard roads. When drivers reach Super Cruise-enabled roads, the steering wheel lightbar will turn green. This light indicates the activation of hands-free driving mode.
Chevrolet also upgraded the adaptive cruise control for the Silverado EV Trail Boss, allowing drivers to choose whether they want to automatically adjust their speed to match the current speed limit.
